Passion for writing - and passion for a particular subject - are absolutely essential. If you have those, then you will keep producing lively and unique content consistently, regardless of whether you make any money from it. And of course persistence is so important (as it is in just about any enterprise). Every now and then I look though my old blog lists to see what people have been writing recently. Inevitably quite a few of these blogs will have died. The attrition rate for blogging is very high. So just keep at it and don't give up because eventually you'll reach the top of your niche simply because so many of your competitors have thrown in the towel.
